How to create a blog website

Well the title of this post does not exactly reflect what I am about to write. It should have rather read “How I created this Blog website” but the prior one is a more search friendly term. I am writing this post as a response to some frequently asked questions on my other posts regarding this blog website.

To tell you the truth I am no web designer, this website just happened out of trial and error. I definitely wanted something like this since I was eager to have a personal website and not use the blogging capabilities provided by some popular websites such as WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr or Google+.

So here are some rough guidelines on how to create your own blogging site without breaking a sweat. Please connect with me by commenting on this post if you require additional details.

Step 1: Register a domain name

This requires you to spend some money since your domain name is going to be unique globally. I registered my domain through CrazyDomains (http://www.crazydomains.com.au/) you could register yours thorough any other provider there are plenty if you search for them on Google. They offer domain names for as low as $5. You can also register it for duration like 5 yrs or 10 yrs, during which period the domain name will not be allotted to anyone else. You could then renew it before the end of the tenure.  These sites also assist you in creating your own website by buying web-space although you could get free web-space elsewhere.

Step 2: Get Web-space for your site

This is the web-server with static IP address where your website will reside. You could set your own server by buying a static IP from your Internet Service Provider (ISP). I got my web-space for free on ServersFree.com (http://www.serversfree.com/) . These web-space providers allow you to install the applications you would be requiring for your website such as Blog framework and Database. You will also get a login for the Control Panel where you can find information such as the DNS IP and the site IP which you need to connect with the domain name you bought in Step 1 (this is a bit technical part but I guess you will figure it out). It also allows you to install required software.

Step 3: Install the framework and database

I installed WordPress. It allowed me to create the blog seamlessly. You could choose any framework provided to you by the web-space provider. If you have your own server you might then have to take some efforts to install the framework. Once you have installed the desired framework, you will get login credentials to that framework where you can then login to the dashboard and create new posts and monitor comments. You could also set the background image and the layout of the blog. You don’t have to do any web designing, just use one of the available templates! Here is a snapshot of the dashboard

 

I know it’s not much since a lot of technical details are missing, probably that’s because I am not a web-designer as I mentioned earlier. But this is the general flow; I feel if you are persistent enough and have some background with websites you will figure it out for yourself. If you are totally new to computers, I recommend you get your website created from someone who is a web-designer. Happy reading!
