This is an unorthodox review of the MI4. I mean you will find a lot of reviews good and bad about the phone, its technicalities and features. This is my personal review of the phone after using it for a day.
First off, the MI4 is larger than it looks in the picture on the Filpkart or MI.com site. I mean if you could mentally visualize the size when they say 5 inch screen then good for you. Otherwise it was a surprise for me since I was expecting a smaller size (as compared to OnePlus One which was another candidate I was reviewing); you could say the size is almost similar to the Samsung Galaxy Grand duos (my wife has one so I compared).
The phone fits your palm comfortably (if you are a male with large hands) and you can do the operations using your thumb. The UI is magnificent and the screen items are well placed, there are no items that pop up because you accidently touched the screen. You can do it to your current phone as well with a bit of customization, so it’s a no-brainer.
I took the orthodox approach as soon as I got my hands on the phone and set it for a full battery charging. The phone does heat up a bit initially but then cools off as the charging reaches 75% which is quite quickly, but then on it takes some time to reach 100%. The phone looks sturdy; I saw a lot of videos about the drop test and all but better not to drop it!
Yes it LOOKS like an IPhone. I guess you got what I mean. The screen is really smooth and easy to work with. The MIUI is fabulous. The metal body does make it a bit heavy but it also makes it look classy! I mean people will get impressed if your primary purpose of buying the phone is vanity (which is normally what everyone wants in the end).
This is important stuff: If you want to copy your contacts form your old phone, there is an option available that uses Bluetooth, and you will also find a video for that on YouTube, but I have a simpler way. If you can extract a .vcf file of all your contacts of your old phone to your laptop and then upload it to the MI4 then that is the fastest and the easiest way. If you want steps comment on this post and I will let you know.
Both the cameras (13MP rear, 8MP front) are good they are Sony after all. The selfies have to be taken from a distance because of the 8MP front camera otherwise the image looks like a caricature of you instead of your picture. The screen is not a Gorilla glass but it’s tough. Video quality is amazing. For 20000Rs it’s very good deal indeed! If you are planning to buy one my Verdict is go for it!
